How one is made

The cutting

One hide, marked and cut by hand. The parts not good enough for a bag become something smaller.

The stitch

Saddle-stitched with two needles, so a broken thread stays put instead of unravelling the seam.

The finish

Edges sanded, sealed and burnished. Half the day goes into the parts nobody photographs.

Why we only make one

A catalogue is a way of hedging. One design, revised until there is nothing left to take out, is a way of committing to it. Every change we have made came from a bag that came back.
